Using a tool that is "too old" (version number too low) for your specific printer will permanently "lock" access to Service Mode, preventing any future resets. For MG3600 users, v.4713 is the minimum, but v.4718 is recommended to avoid lockout. For the newer MG3650S, you may actually need v.5103 instead.

If you have a Canon MegaTank (G-series), do not use v.4718. Canon designed these with a replaceable "Maintenance Cartridge" (MC-30 or MC-31). You just buy a new box ($12) and snap it in. The printer automatically resets. Note: V.4718 can force-reset these, but you will ruin the physical box. You must connect the printer via a USB cable
